Abstract:
SiC particles reinforced Ti matrix composites were prepared using the hollow cathode plasma sintering. The effect of Al content on the microstructure and properties of the composites was investigated. The results show that no new phase formed in the composites after adding of Al, but could improve the sintering and the formation of Ti3SiC2 phase. With the increase of Al content, the density of the composites decreased, both the bending strength and hardness decreased firstly, then increased and finally decreased. When the Al content was 6vol%, the relative density, bending strength and hardness of the composites were about 92.5%, 400 MPa and 54 HRC.
