Abstract:
A quenched high-chromium cast iron was cryogenically treated at -196 ℃ and than tempered at various temperatures. The influences of the cryogenic treatment on hardness, impact toughness, sliding wear, rolling wear and microstructrue of the iron were studied. The cryogenic treatment improved the hardness of the high-chromiun cast iron greatly, but decreased the impact toughness. The best integral performance was obtained when the high-chromiun cast iron was tempered at 250 ℃ after cryogenic treatment. The hardness of the cryogenically treated iron reached its peak value when the iron was tempered at the temperature 100 ℃ lower than the temperature corresponding to the iron without cryogenic treatment. The cryogenic treatment had litter impact on the wear-resistant ability of the high-chromiun cast iron.
