Abstract: Fatigue small crack growth behavior is an important issue in structural durability and damage tolerance design.Small-crack theory is reviewed in this paper.Microstructural effects in small crack growth and analytical description of small crack growth rate are emphatically analyzed.Also the applications of small-crack theory to total fatigue life prediction,durability analysis,and crack initiation/propagation demarcation are briefly discussed.
