Abstract:
High-speed machining (HSM) is one of the emerging cutting processes,which is machining at a speed significantly higher than the speed commonly in use on the shop floor.High speed machining has received an important attention as a technological solution for high productivity to increase economic efficiency in manufacturing.The recent developments in tool materials at high speed machining operations,which include PCD,PCBN,ceramics,cermets,and coated tools,are reviewed.The properties,application ranges and prospective developments of tool materials in high speed machining are presented.Fabrication technologies for coated tools,fine grain cemented carbide and high-speed steel tools are also discussed.The presentation is very great beneficial to the wide applications of high speed machining.
