Abstract:
Using titanium, silicon and carbon powders as raw materials,Ti3SiC2 powders with high purity were synthesized by self-propagation at high temperature with the aid of small amount of aluminum. The phase composition and microstructure of the powders were studied by XRD and SEM. The Ti3SiC2 contents in samples were estimated by K-value method. The results show that the addition of aluminum can obviously accelerate the formation of Ti3SiC2. The addition amount of aluminum had a great influence on the formation of Ti3SiC2. Too much or too less addition of aluminum did not benefit to improve the Ti3SiC2 contents in synthesized samples. The maximal mass fraction of Ti3SiC2,93.6%,was obtained when the mole ratio of titanium, silicon, carbon, aluminum was 3∶1.5∶2∶0.2 in mixed raw powders.
