Abstract:
The Lattice Boltzmann Method(LBM)was coupled with a modified cellular automaton (MCA) model to simulate dendritic growth during alloy solidification with and without fluid flow.In the model, the LBM and MCA were adopted for simulating flow field, solutal field and dendritic growth, respectively. The simulated results show that under a pure diffusion circumstance, dendrite shapes are symmetric. However,in the presence of melt convection, dendritic growth is promoted on the upstream side and inhibited on the downstream side, leading to asymmetric growth features of convective dendrites. The simulated pure diffusive and convective dendritic features agree with that simulated by the previous MCA-transport model.
