Finite Element Simulation of High Speed Cutting Nickel-based Superalloy GH4169 with PCBN Tool

Abstract
Experiment of high speed cutting nickel-based superalloy GH4169 with PCBN(polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) tool was carried out.The effects of cutting parameters(cutting speed,cutting depth and feed rate) on cutting forces were studied by using orthogonal test.Prediction models of cutting forces were established by multiple regression analysis with least squares estimation.At the same time,finite element simulation model of high speed cutting was established based Deform-3D to simulate the cutting process,the distributions of cutting force,cutting temperature and stress field were studied.It is shown that the cutting forces increased and then decreased with the increase of cutting speed,and increased with the increase of cutting depth and feed rate.Regression analysis significance test results proved that the model could effectively predict the cutting forces.Comprehensive mean deviation of simulated cutting forces was less than 15%,this demonstrated the validity and efficiency of the model.
