Exponential Aging Model of Polymeric Materials for Nuclear Cables under γ-Ray Irradiation

  • Accelerated aging test of γ-ray irradiation under different cumulative doses was carried out on samples from eight polymeric materials for nuclear cables, and then tensile property test was conducted. An exponential aging model related to elongation at break and irradiation dose was established on the basis of the test results, and its universality was verified by the data from the reference. The exponential aging model was simplified, and then verified by experiments. The results show that after γ-ray irradiation, the change of elongation at break with cumulative irridation dose met exponential law. The correlation coefficient of the exponential aging model for fitting test data was greater than 0.98. The exponential aging model was generally applicable. When the number of effective test data was 2, the maximum relative error between elongation at break predicted by simplified model and test value was about 0.1, indicating that the simplified model can meet engineering requirements.
