Fabrication and Properties of TiN/Ti Multilayer Deposited on the Surface of Titanium Alloy Artificial Heart Valve Ring

Abstract
In order to improve the properties of the TiO2 layer on the titanium alloy artificial heart valve ring,TiN/Ti multilayer transition films with different modulation periods(44,70 and 100 nm)were fabricated on the surface of artificial heart valve ring by unbalanced magnetron sputtering method.The phase composition,cross-sectional morphology,hardness and wear resistance of the films were investigated by means of XRD,SEM,microhardness and friction and wear tester.The results show that the TiN/Ti multilayer was composed of Ti phase and TiN phase.The TiN/Ti multilayer film with high hardness and good wear resistance had obvious multilayer structure when the modulation period was 100 nm.There was no evident difference of the phase structure and properties of the TiN/Ti multilayer on different positions of the artificial heart valve ring.The TiN/Ti multilayer could be used as the transition layer of TiO2 modified surface layer for artificial heart valve ring.
