Microstructure and Properties of Chromized Layer Prepared by High Frequency Induction Heating and Paste Method

    • A chromized layer was prepared on Ti6Al4V alloy surface by high frequency induction heating and paste method, and the thickness, microstructure, chemical composition, hardness, bond strength and tribological property of the chromized layer were studied. The results show that the thickness of the chromized layer was more than 25 μm and the layer composed of α+β, CrVO3, (Ti0.88Cr0.12)2O3 and TiN phases. The chemical composition of chromized layer exhibited gradient distribution. The hardness at a distance of 25 μm away from the chromized layer surface reached 850 HV. The chromized layer and the substrate had metallurgical bonding and thus increased obviously the tribological property of the substrate.
