Corrosion Behavior of High Titanium Steel Exposed in Salt Fog Environment

    • The corrosion behavior of the high titanium structural steel was investigated in indoor salt fog dry-wet cycling accelerated corrosion environment, then compared with a commercial weathering steel 09CuPCrNi and a new type bainitic weathering steel. The results show that the high titanium steel possessed higher corrosion resistance than the other two steels at the initial stage of corrosion. However, after corroded for 45 d,the contrastive steels exhibited higher protective ability than the high titanium structural steel. The phenomenon might be attributed to the less potential difference inside the matrix and the corrosion rate was lower at the initial stage, which originated from the homogeneous microstructure of the high titanium steel. After the surface had been covered by rust layers, the interface between the layer and the matrix was leveling, and the rust layer was easy to scrap due to the weak combined strength. That led to the decrease of the protective ability with the prolongation time.
