Preparation of Alumina Nanofibers by Oxidation of Amalgam
-
Abstract
Alumina nanofibers with amorphous structure, diameters from 5 to 15 nm,can be prepared by oxidation of aluminium in mercury medium.TEM,TG,DSC and XRD were used to analyze and characterize the sample. The influence of calcination temperature on the morphology, phase and specific surface area of the alumina nanofibers is discussed. The results indicate that during the transformation of the amorphous alumina nanofibers to α-Al2O3,only γ-Al2O3 transitional phase appeared. After calcinated at 850 ℃ for 2 h,the amorphous alumina nanofibers transfered to γ-Al2O3 and retain nanofiber’s morphology;after calcinated at 1 200 ℃ for 2 h,they transfer to α-Al2O3 and changed to vermiculite morphology.
