Continuous Rolling Process for Production of High Strength Eutectoid Steel Flat Wire and Its Property

  • The as-drawn 65Mn steel wire with a true strain of 1.75 was rolled in two continuous rolling processes in three rolling-mills, and its total deformation degree was 80.8%. The mechanical property and the microstructure evolution of steel wire before and after rolling were analyzed. The results show that a high strength flat steel wire with a tensile strength of 2 328 MPa and a micro-hardness of 532 HV, was obtained in the process 2. The cementites in steel wire rotated, bending deformed, continuously fragmented and finally dissolved during the rolling process. The high strength of steel wire depended on partial solution of cementites which could cause solution strengthening and dispersion strengthening of undissolved cementites.
