Mechanical Properties and Apparent Viscosity of Nano-CeO2/Zn-4.5Al-RE Composites

    • The mechanical properties of nano-CeO2/Zn-4.5Al-RE composites with different weight fractions of CeO2 were measured with a universal tester. And the apparent viscosity was investigated by means of the height decreasing rate of composite before and after remelting. The effects of nano-CeO2 on mechanical properties and apparent viscosity were analyzed. The mechanical properties of matrix increase with the addition of CeO2.Compared with matrix alloy, the mechanical properties of composites are optimal at the CeO2 weight fraction of 3%.With the values of the HV hardness, modulus and tensile strength being 96.7 HV,17.1 GPa and 176.5 MPa,increased by 412%,34.6% and 34.2% respectively. However, the elongation ratio of composites decreasesed by 4.6%.The apparent viscosity of composites rapidly increases with increasing content of CeO2.
