Effect of Matrix Carbon on Friction and Wear Property of Carbon/Carbon Composite

    • Pitch-matrix carbon/carbon composites(P-C/C) and pitch & phenolic resin matrix carbon/carbon composites (D-C/C) were prepared using liquid impregnation/carbonization method. Densification efficiency, flexural strength and friction and wear properties of two kinds of carbon/carbon composites were studied. The results show that P-C/C exhibited higher densification efficiency than D-C/C. When the volume densities of the two kinds of carbon/carbon composites were the same, no apparent difference was shown in flexural strength. D-C/C showed a higher friction coefficient and fairly serious wear. The difference of structures and properties of matrix carbon caused different friction and wear properties of these two kinds of carbon/carbon composites mainly.
