Tensile and Tribological Properties of Polyester Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Resin Composites

    • Four fiber reinforced epoxy resin composites were prepared by laminating method. The influence of different fillers of nano-particles and PTFE on the tensile and tribological properties of the composites with different fabric orientations was studied. The micrographs of tensile fracture and friction surfaces of the composites were also analyzed. The retults show that the tensile strength and modulus in warp and weft directions of the composites with the addition of PTFE increased 1.4%,11.2% and 31.5%,22.1% respectively. While the same properties increased 4.2%,14.2% and 34.9%,26.3% with the addition of Al2O3 nano-particles respectively. The tribological properties of the composites could be improved. The friction coefficient was reduced by 22.5% by filling PTFE whereas the same property of Al2O3-filled composite was increased by 21.3%.The wear rate was reduced by 78.1% by filling PTFE and the same property was reduced by 94.1% by filling Al2O3.
