Impovement of Aluminum-Made Mould by Soft-Contact Electromagnetic Continuous Casting

Abstract
The magnetic field distribution in the improved electromagnetic continuous casting aluminum-made mould through adding silicon steel sheet was measured. Using the mould 7050 aluminum alloy slabs were prepared by soft-contact electromagnetic continuous casting. The solidification structure and solute distribution of the slabs were investigated. The results show that the magnetic field in the improved mould was significantly enhanced. At the same height, the magnetic induction intensity in the mould reached maximum at the corner, took second place at the center of short side with the value a little stronger than that at the long side, and reached minimum at the center of the plane. The magnetic induction intensity in the mould basically reached maximum at the half of the induction coil height. The solidification structure of the slabs prepared by the improved mould was significantly refined, and the macro-segregation of the solute elements was effectively restrained.
