Electrical Sliding Wear Behavior of Copper-10% graphite Composites

Abstract
Copper-10%graphite composites were prepared by means of cold pressure sintering powder metallurgy method.Tensile and impact tests were carried out to gain the mechanical properties of the composites, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electrical sliding wear tests were used to analyze the fracture appearance and wear properties of the composites. The results indicate that the tensile fracture appeared brittleness because of the high graphite content.Under non-current carrying condition, the wearing loss increased with the increase of test load and sliding speed.Under current carrying condition, friction coefficient and wearing loss both decreased compared to those obtained under non-current carrying condition, because the archeat produced from the current promoted the lubrication action of the graphite.
