Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ti-Nb-Zr Alloys with Low Elastic Modulus

    • In order to lower the elastic modulus of biomedical implant materials, four alloys of Ti30Nb7Zr (T1),Ti30Nb13Zr (T2),Ti40Nb7Zr (T3) and Ti40Nb13Zr (T4) with different contents of Nb and Zr,were prepared by vacuum arc melting. The alloys were subjected to solution treatment in β phase field after forging.Their mechanical properties and microstructure were detected. The results indicated that the microstructure of T1 and T2 alloy were α″+β binary phase structure. And the appearance and quantity of α″ phase were different with the increase of Zr content.Microstructure of T3 and T4 alloys were single β phase structure. The T2 alloy possessed the lowest elastic modulus (58 GPa) among the four alloys with elastic modulus from 58 to 73 GPa,and is fitter for implant materials of body than others.
