Pretreatment of Carbon Nano-Tubes and Its Effect on Properties of Ti(C,N)-Based Cermets

Abstract
Carbon nono-tubes (CNTs) coated with nickle cladding using electroless plating after surface modification were added into Ti(C,N)-based cermets as reinforcing phase with different contents. CTNs reinforcing Ti(C,N)-based cermets were prepared by powder metallurgy. The effects of surface modification and contents of CTNs and sintering temperature on property of cermets were studied. The results showed that the cladding of nickel was more continuous and smoother at pH value of 4.5 than that at pH value of 9; The bending strength of Ti(C,N)-based cermets increased with the increase of contents of CTNs from 0 to 0.5wt%; And the maximum value of bending strength was obtained at sintering temperature of 1 420 ℃.
