Preparation of Functionally Graded Ti(C,N)-based Cermets with HIP Technology

Abstract
The preparation technology of functionally graded (FGM) Ti(C,N)-based cermets was reviewed.The characteristics of microstructure and hardness of the FGM cermets produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) technology were summarized.A surface zone rich in titanium and nitrogen was induced by heat-treatment.Density and hardness were improved and hardness gradient was formed.The high temperature and high pressure N2 made the holes closed and defects vanished,and resulted in a prolonged tool life.
