Abstract
The intergranular corrosion (IGC) behavior of the ZL203 alloy bulk fabricated by equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) was investigated by immersion corrosion tests and electrochemical corrosion tests. The results show that the ECAP process refined the microstructure and decreased the IGC susceptibility of the ultra-fine grain (UFG) ZL203 alloy significantly. Two primary factors led to the decrease in IGC susceptibility of the UFG ZL203 alloy. The first was that the breakdown of the θ-phase net-like structure blocked the corrosion propagation channels. The second was the corrosion resistance improvement of oxide film of the deformed α-Al matrix.
