Fracture Analysis of Tantalum Tube of Sulfuric Acid Evaporator

The failure reason of the Ta-2.5W pipe of sulphuric acid evaporator,which was put into use for only six months,was studied.The results show that the material has excellent anti-corrosion performance in the medium.The rupture was not caused by stress corrosion cracking,but induced by the surface scratch of material,resulting in a decrease of the efficient loading area of tantalum pipe thus reduction of strength.
