Overview for New Technology in Magnesium Production

Some new technologies in magnesium production developed form the basis of thermal process are reviewed, and the characteristics of those new technologies and the advantages and disadvantages comparising the new technology and traditional thermal process are introduced. Those new technologies comprise carbothermic process, aluminothermic method of reducing, Si-Al alloy thermal reduction method, hot calcium thermal reduction method, CaC2 thermal reduction process, molten silicon reduction method, MINTEK thermal method and Zulianni process. It is pointed that the development direction of thermal magnesium production.
