Mechanical Calculations for Interfaces between Bone Cement and Implanted Hip Joint Prostheses
-
Abstract
The hip joint prostheseses fixed respectively by (CAP) and polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) bone cement had been analyzed with finite element method in the ANSYS software and the stress distribution and magnitude of peak stress were obtained. The biology method fixation was also analyzed with the same method. The phenomenon of stress-shielding had been found in different materials, such as 316L stainless steel,CoCrMo alloy and Ti6Al4V alloy, and stress decrease during elastic module increase was found in these materials.By the calculation,it is obvious that the CAP and PMMA bone cement fixation have greater stress in the femur bone than biology method fixation.Bone cement fixation method is benefit for the bone reconstruction and patient healing since it should decrease the stress-shielding affection.
