Damping Capacity of SiC Particulate Reinforced Mg-Zn-Zr Composites
-
Abstract
SiC particulate reinforced Mg-Zn-Zr composites were prepared by hot-pressing sintering method. The variation of the damping capacity of cast Mg-Zn-Zr matrix alloy and SiCp/Mg-Zn-Zr composites prepared by hot-pressing sintering with frequency and temperature was investigated by meams of LMR-1 low-frequency torsion pendulum system. The results show that the addition of SiC particulates increased the damping capacity of the SiCp/Mg-Zn-Zr composites apparently. The damping capacity of the composites decreased with the increase of Zn content in the alloy. The damping capacity of the Mg-Zn-Zr matrix alloy and the composites both decreased firstly and then increased with the increase of frequency in the range of 3×10-3-7 Hz. Among all the samples,SiCp/Mg-0.93%Zn-0.70%Zr composite had the highest damping capacity and there was a hysteresis-damping peak for this composite at 50-100 ℃.
