Effects of Beryllium on High Temperature Oxidation Behavior of Al-34%Mg Eutectic Alloys

    • The Al-Mg alloy containing 34% Mg was added with different beryllium contents in the form of alloying for increasing the high temperature oxidation resistance. The obtained samples were oxidized in isothermal quasi-continuousness at 420 ℃ and in cyclic from 470 ℃ to room temperature in air and the oxidation behavior was analyzed. The results show that the high temperature oxidation resistance of the alloy with trace content (≥0.01%) of Be in solid state and in liquid state was enhanced and the adhesion and self-cure capability of oxide flims were improved. The growth rate of the oxide films with BeO was greatly decreased on the surface of the alloys.
