Abstract
Based on combustion synthesis technology under high gravity to prepare rapidly solidified composite ceramic Al2O3/ZrO2 (4Y),the influence of ZrO2 content on microstructure and properties of solidified composite ceramics Al2O3/ZrO2 (4Y) was investigated through XRD,SEM and EDS.The results show that the main microstructure of the ceramic was rod-shaped eutectic colonies as the ZrO2 content was in the range of 34.1%-46.4%,and the microstructure transformed to be isolated spherically-shaped ZrO2 grains as the ZrO2 content was in the range of 49.6%-53.7%.With the ZrO2 content increasing, the relative density of the ceramic decreased, the maximum value was 94.3%,whereas the hardness and the fracture toughness increased first and then decreased. The maximum hardness value of the composite ceramic reached 13.1 GPa as the ZrO2 content was 426%,and the maximum fracture toughness value of 13.5 MPa·m1/2 was also obtained.
