Effects of Laser Shock Peening on Residual Stress, Microstructure and Fatigue Property of LY2 Aluminum Alloy

    • Effects of laser shock peening (LSP) on surface residual stress, hardness distribution, microstructure and fatigue life of LY2 aluminum alloy were studied by experiments. Results show that the surface compressive residual stress and microhardness of LY2 aluminum alloy processed by laser shock peening were enhanced. The grains became finer and more uniform, which restrained the fatigue crack growth and resulted in the increase of fatigue life obviously.
