Adsorption Property and Compressive Strength of Blocky Activated Carbon for Indoor Air Purification
-
Abstract
In order to prepare the low-cost blocky activated carbon for indoor air purification, the green petroleum coke was used as the adsorption matrix raw material, the asphalt as the binder and the potassium hydroxide as the activator. The blocky activated carbon samples with proper ceramic powders were prepared after mixing, forming, oxygen isolated carbonization and chemical activation.Adsorption properties and compressive strength tests were conducted on the different samples. The results show that when the mass ratio of petroleum coke, asphalt and potassium hydroxide was 10∶2∶5 and after compression molding as well as carbon-coated foam ceramic slurry on the prepared sample had a toluene adsorption rate of 16.7%, a compressive strength of 3.7 MPa, a BET specific surface area of 592.46 m2·g-1 and a total pore volume of 0.289 3 mL·g-1.
