An Approach to Evaluating Cutting Performance of Indexable Coating Tools

Abstract
An indexable coating tool clamping fixture fixing the tools on the fiction and wear test machine UMT-2 was designed. The process of lathe tool cutting was simulated by fiction and wear test to evaluate the cutting performance of coating tools with coating TiAlSiN and TiAlCrN/TiAlN, tools corner radius of 0.4 mm and 0.8 mm. The results revealed that the cutting performance of coating tools could be evaluated efficiently using above approach.
