Cutting Properties in Cutting Austempered Ductile Iron by PCBN Compact Tools

Four kinds of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride(PCBN) compact tools were used to cut the austempered ductile iron (ADI) in the experiment for the purpose of getting the curves of cutting force,friction force and friction coefficient with the change of cutting speed.The results indicated that the friction force and friction coefficient of low-content CBN compact were smaller than those of high-content CBN compact and those of the ceramic binder compact were smaller than those of the metallic binder compact.Besides,the PCBN tools with massive Al in the binders,are disadvantageous to cutt ADI,since the friction force and friction coefficient will unceasingly increase along with the speeding up of the cutting.
