Effect of Surface Mechanical Treatment on Surface Morphology and Tensile Properties of 5083 Aluminum Alloy

    • Scan electron microscopy and slow strain tension test were utilized to study the effect of surface mechanical treatment (sand blast and hand polish) on surface morphology and tensile properties of the 5083 aluminum alloy. The results show that surface mechanical treatment could lead to the damage of 5083 aluminum alloy(micro-cracks occured on the surface)in a certain extent, and the micro-cracks could lead to the shertening of the fracture time and the decrease of elongation during tension. The elongation of the sand blast-treated aluminum alloy decreased by 9.9%,and that of the hand polish-treated aluminum alloy decreased by 13.5%.
