Microstructure and Wear Resistance of Al-12%Sn Alloy Prepared by Mechanical Alloying
-
Abstract
Al-12%Sn alloy powders were prepared by mechanical alloying. Then the bulk alloy could be obtained after sintering the compressed alloy powders.Microstructure changes of the alloy during high energy milling and sintering were investigated by using XRD and SEM.The wear-resisting property test was performed also. The results show that with the increase of sintering temperature, the grain size of the nano tin phase in the alloy increased and hardness of the alloy decreased.Sn distributed homogenously in the Al substrate when the sintering temperature was below 523 K.When the sintering temperature was above 523 K which was higher than the eutectic temperature of Al-Sn alloy, partial Sn net distributed and most Sn distributed dispersively and uniformly in the Al substrate. The alloy had excellent wear resistance after sintering at 723 K.
