Abstract
A model of shot peening of the particle reinforced TiB2/Al composites was built with ANSYS/LS-DYNA finite element simulation software, then the residual stress distribution after shot peening was predicted. The shot peening tests were performed on the composites, and the residual stresses were measured, then the test results were compared with the simulation results. It is shown that the experimetal results of residual stress distribution of the composites after shot peening were in agreement with the simulated one. The reinforcement at the outmest layer after shot peening showed tensile stress state. In the residual pressure stress field, residual stress in the reinforcement was generally greater than that in the substrate, which was resulted from the difference of the mechanical properties of the two materials.
