Grain Size and Structure Change of Al Phase during the Process of Nanosize Al2O3/Al Composite Powders Prepared by High-Energy Ball Milling

Abstract
The effects of milling time and nano-Al2O3 content on the grain size and lattice strain of aluminium phase during the high-energy ball milling of nano-Al2O3/Al mixed powders were analyzed by using X-ray diffraction. The results show that in the initial stage of ball milling, the grain size of Al powders was refined from micron-size to nano-size.With the time extending further,high-energy ball milling provided energy to grain growth and recombining, the aluminum grains grew along the special crystal.Lower Al2O3 content (5vol%) could promote the aluminum powders crushing, but high Al2O3 content would be disadvantageous to the crushing of the powder ball milling.
