Preparation and Mechanical Properties of Wheat Straw Fiber/Polypropylene Composites

Abstract
Effects of the kinds of coupling agent,amount of wheat straw fibers obtained by thermal-mechanical extraction and compatibilizer MAPP on the interfacial compatibility between wheat straw fibers and waste polypropylene as well as the mechanical properties of the composites were studied.Dispersion of wheat straw fibers and surface morphology of impact fracture were observed by SEM and stereo-microscope.The results showed that after wheat straw fibers treated by 3% KH550,the mechanical properties of composites were significantly improved because of the good interfacial adhesion.When the amount of wheat strow fibers was about 20wt%,they dispersed evenly in waste polypropylene and the reinforced effect was the best.Tensile strength,flexile strength and impact strength of the composites with 8wt% MAPP were maximum,which were 61.14 MPa,68.25MPa and 1125 kJ·m-2 respectively.
