In order to find out the cause of the drill collar fracture,the morphology of the fracture surface,chemical composition,mechanical properties and microstructure were analyzed.The results show that the drill collar fracture was due to fatigue fracture.The main causes of the fracture were the insufficient toughness,irregular thread shape (sharpe corner) and stress concentration where could form fatigue crack orgin easily.
