Study on Densification Process of Warm Compaction in Iron Powders

    • Experimental studies on the densification process of pure and admixed lubricated iron powders were explored with an Instron thermal simulation tester. The morphology of iron powders were observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM),and the half height width of(110) diffraction peak of iron powders compacts were tested by X-ray diffraction(XRD),and the oxygen content of iron powders were measured,at the same time, the microhardness of iron-based compacts were surveyed by optical microscope(OM).The results show that the green densities and the half height width of(110) diffraction peak of pure iron powders compacted at room temperature are higher than those of compacted at 130℃ at the same compaction pressure.Simultaneity, the green densities of iron powders admixed zinc stearate compacted at room temperature are higher than those of iron powders admixed WSA at different compaction pressures. However, the green densities of iron powders admixed zinc stearate and WSA compacted at 130℃ are higher than those of compacted at room temperature at the same compaction pressure. And,the degree of work-hardening of powder particle is increased when pure iron powders were warm compacted.Whereas, the ability of plastic deformation is increased and the work-hardening trend is delayed when admixed lubricated iron powders were warm compacted.
