The Effect of Anodizing of Aluminum Alloy on Its Adhesive Bonding
-
Abstract
The aluminum alloy LY12CZ was anodized in phosphoric acid solutions. The mechanical and adhesive properties of the anodized aluminum alloy were measured. The durability of the adherents and the lap shear strength of the adherents in different circumstances were studied. The mechanical properties of the aluminum alloy anodized showed little changes. The lap shear strength of the bond,in which the alloy was anodized, was promoted greatly and was 238% larger or over 104% larger when one of the adherents was a composite sample than that of the non-anodized one.The anodized aluminum adherents had good weathering resistance. The lap shear strength of the bond droped 8.1% after being dipped into alkaline water for 100 h and kept stable after being placed for 60 days outdoors. The anodized aluminum coupons had good durability while the water could accelerate the failure of bond.
