Friction and Wear Properties of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Phenolic Resin Matrix Friction Materials
-
Abstract
The basalt fiber reinforced resinmatrix friction materials were prepared by using phenolic resin as matrix and basalt fiber as reinforcer. The effect of resin content on the bending strength and friction and wear properties of the composites was studied, and the friction and wear mechanism was analyzed. The results show that the bending strength of the materials increased with increasing the resin content, but decreased when the resin content was about 35wt%.With the increase of the resin content, the water absorption and the wear rate decreased. When the resin content was 25wt%,there were relatively high friction coefficient, low water absorption and wear rate. The desirable resin content was from 25wt% to 30wt%.When the resin content was relatively low,the basalt fiber was easy to be peeled off and pulled out.And the main wear mechanism of the friction material was abrasive wear.
