Friction and Wear Properties of SiC Particulate Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites
-
Abstract
The friction and wear properties of aluminum matrix composites reinforced with SiC particulates with different sizes and contents were studied against HFM605 type nonmetal friction materials under the condition of different friction loads and velocites. The friction factor decreased with increasing load and reached the minimum under high load and high velocity. The size and content of SiC particulates did not show obvious effect on the friction factor. The wear resistance of SiC composite was enhanced with the increase of content and decrease of size of SiC particulates. The friction and wear properties of composites were well improved by heat treatment process.
