Numerical Simulation for Burst Progressive Failure of Filament-Wound Composite Case in Solid Rocket Motor

Abstract
The failure of filament-wound composite case of solid rocket motor under the role of burst pressure was studied. A progressive failure mode for filament-wound composite case was proposed based on Abaqus and user subroutine, and the Hashin criteria as failure judgement for single layer. Rigidity deterioration of failure elements was considered in the simulation to prodict the damage type, failure progression and burst pressure. And the proving experiment was carried out. Results show that the reason for failure was mainly clue to matrix cracking and fiber rupture at the case center. The error of burst pressure between numerical analysis and experiment result was 7.1%, The burst progressive failure model can exactly predict burst failure process.
