Effects of Carbon on Phases and Compressive Properties of Sintered and Quenched TiNb Alloys

    • The effects of carbon on phase and compressive properties of sintered and quenched TiNb alloys were studied by using X-ray diffraction and materials testing, respectively. The results show that the microstructure of the two sintered alloys consisted of α and β phases, but the sintered Ti-35.4Nb-0.05C alloy contained more β phase, and thus resulted it owning lower elastic modulus and higher yield strength. The microstructure of the two quenched alloys consisted of α″ and βM phases, and comparing with the sintered alloys, the quenched alloys owned lower elastic modules and yield strength. Comparing with the quenched alloy without carbon, the quenched alloy with carbon had lower elastic modules and yield strength for more low-strength β亚 phase in it.
