Tribological Synergy Study of a Benzotrizole Ester Derivative and Tributhyl Phosphate
-
Abstract
A novel non-phosporus benzotrizole derivative ( BTB) was synthesized, and the tribological properties of BTB,commercial additive tributhyl phosphate (TBP) and mixtures of BTB and TBP with different mole ratios as additives in liquid paraffin were examined with four-ball tester.Worn surface morphology and element chemistry configuration of steel ball were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy with EDS.Results indicate that all additives increased the load-carrying capacity of the base oil,and possess antiwear and antifriction performances of the base oil.Combination of BTB and TBP showed synergistic effect in load-carrying,antiwear and friction-reducing in base oil.The additives reacted with counterface metal and generated a boundary lubricating and protecting film which improved tribological properties of the base oil.
