    Mechanical Properties of an Ultra-high Carbon Steel

    • Microstructure and mechanical properties of an ultrahigh carbon steel (UHCS) containing 1.6 wt% carbon were studied.Fine pearlite and grainular carbides are formed through the process of divorced-eutectoid transformation (DET) followed by normalizing.The UHCS has excellent strength,toughness and high fatigue limit.Yield strength and tensile strength of the UHCS are higher than those of 40CrNiMo.Its elongation is as higher as that of 40CrNiMo.So the UHCS is a very excellent structural steel.
