Abstract
The weld between SAF2205 duplex stainless steel and 16MnR low alloy high strength steel was jointed using tungsten inert gas arc welding (TIG) with ER309 welding wire. The tensile test, impact test and hardness measurement were carried out for the joint. The microstructure of the joint was analyzed by using SEM,optical micnscopy and XRD.The results show that the decarburized layer and carbon-enriched layer were distributed on the side of the 16MnR base metal and in the side of the bonding interface with weld metal, respectively, and the microstructure of austenite and needle-like ferrite was formed in the center of the joint. The fracture of the tensile specimen occurred in the base metal 16MnR with a relatively low strength, and the microhardness of the joint was changed quickly at the interface of 16MnR steel/welal metal. The dissimilar metal welded joint had high quality and could meet the requirements of mechanical properties for engineering structures.
