In Situ Formation of Cr Filaments during Equal Channel Angular Pressing of Casting Cu-5.7%Cr Alloy

    • The evolution and formation of in situ Cr filaments during equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) of Cu-5.7%Cr alloy were investigated. The applicability of Segal model and Mcnelley model of shear deformation were analyzed based on the evolution of Cr filaments. The results indicate that the rotation and spreading of dendritic Cr phase took place during shear deformation proces, resulting in the formation of long and thin in situ filaments. The direction of in situ filaments tended to be parallel to the x axis at large strains.Taking into account the effect of friction between billets and die walls on the material flow, the Mcnelley model of shear deformation for calculating the inclination angle of in situ filaments was modified. The predicted inclination angle of in situ filaments was in agreement with experimental results.
