Research Progress in Magnesium Production and Refining Processes

The principle, technology process and characteristics of magnesium production processes are mainly summarized and discussed simply, the production processes including electrolysis process (DOW, Farben and Magnola processes) and thermal reduction process (Pidgeon, Bolzano and Magnetherm processes). By comparing with three kind of refining processes of magnesium at present, it is concluded that refining magnesium metal using MgO ceramic foam filters will be a promising methods in future.
