Wear of Tool with TiAlN Coating in High-speed Milling of Particle Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites

    • High-speed milling experiments of SiC/Al and Al2O3/Al composites were performed with TiAlN-coated carbide YS8 end-mill.The main wear mode, wear morphology and wear mechanism were analyzed. The results show that abrasive wear, coating spallation and ting tipping were the main wear modes of the tool with coating. The larger the reinforced particles were, the more obvious the scratch marks and tipping surface hollows were.Tool with coating used in high-speed milling showed no advantages.
